Single Hooks for Doughbait 7 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 2
This is the hook I use when I fish doughbait and works excellent. You'll need some small diameter mild steel wire or equiv. Must be able to bend and twist easily. Like the kind for hanging picture _frame_s,etc. Cut about a 12" piece of wire and coil it around a pencil or similar _object_ creating very tight coils. Cut a small piece about 5-8 coils, depending on your hook choice, expand the coils on the small piece to resemble a spring.Using the hook of your choice,(I use Gamakatsu Octopus hooks) slide the small piece down the shank and, with needlenose pliers, twist and secure tag ends to shank of hook. Once you get the hang of it, a couple dozen can be made in minutes. Upon take or hookset, the wire gets pushed back and doesn't cause any interference. Hope this helps. Please, Please, do not use treble hooks! Be a conservationist! Let the carp keep his lips!

CarpHunter420,
I totally agree about NOT using treble hooks for Carp, in fact I am sure that not only do they hurt the Carp they probably hinder catching them to start off with. Personally I use a hair rig for the bait, (which means the bait is on a thread of braid tied to the hook, not actually on the hook) this helps with more bites ending in hooking.

I've been thinking about the hair rig...I'd really like to try it someday if I could figure it out.Seems a bit complicated.Would it work on softer baits or will it fly off on cast? How well does it work with corn?

A hair rig works well on boilies and corn, though on doughbaits it would not work so well.
