Doughball become a boilie? 2 Years, 9 Months ago Karma: 2
Hi Everyone! I'm new to the complicated carp techniques. This season I want to try hair rigs and boilies, but every boilie recipe I've seen has an ingredient or several I don't recognize, or there are no quantity of ingredients listed. For years I've used a doughball made with shredded wheat, jello powder and water. Can I boil that to make a boilie? I also wanted to try making a doughball out of oatmeal, corn meal, vanilla butternut flavoring, and creamed corn. Any clue if that could be boiled? I guess I should try it and see, but I figured if someone knew it would be easier than trial and error. Thanks in advance for any information.

OK I figured it out myself. Doughbait is also known as pack bait. If I want to use my old tried and true doughball on a hair rig i need to use a corn pop. Boilies are a whole different deal as they contain eggs.

Hi WV Carpman,
You are right, boilies are a bit different from dough bait. I believe it is a combo of the eggs and semolina that make them hard as they are boiled.
While doughbait can be used on a hair (with a small round spring type rig available from Korda) It is very easy for nuisance fish to pick your hookbait clean in no time! This is why boilies are so effective. Other fish can beat the daylights out of them and will still remain on the hair for the carp to eat!
A good dough type bait would definitely be better as a "packbait" on a feeder lead with a boilie or corn as a hookbait.
I have been experimenting with using a 14-16 mm marine halibut pellet from Dynamite Baits as hookbait. They are hard like a boilie, but have a great instant attraction quality such as high fish oils and amino acids. They are virtually indestuctable from other fish and are easily digetable and nutritious for carp. Making them great for baiting a spot and for hookbait as well!
Check out www.bigcarptackle.com for a great selection of baits and supplies.
