Carping in Austin 1 Year, 6 Months ago Karma: 0
I'm new to the Austin area and I'm seeking some tips on how to fish Town Lake. I have descent equipment and know the basics. I moved from FL and the only carp fishing I have done is once a year in WV. I use a few bags of Erni's strawberry method mix with corn on the hair. We catch them in the teens but it seems like most of them have never been hooked. As for Austin, I haven't got a clue where to start. I'm hoping that someone can help me determine what to use and what part of the river/lake are good fishing. I feel like the carp have seen so much here and been caught that it's rocket science how to catch them. Any help from the local scientists would be greatly appreciated.

first off welcome to the forum and welcome to Texas, you have moved to a great carping city, lots of 30s and a few fourties have come out of there.
Here is a link to some good locations to fish on lady bird lake, just click on the placement and it will give ya directions, www.carpanglersgroup.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=39257
For baits there are many ways to go, I normally mix it up with boilies and flavored maize on a hair rig, using a semi-fixed rig.
Best time of the year to fish LBL is october through june, good luck and let us know how you do

I agree with Carp Walker Oct thru June is the best time on Town Lake, this time of year the hydroelectric damns are chugging out water and make fishing for carp more difficult. The methods you are currently using will work fine, just make sure you use some good strong gear as these fish fight hard. I personally use 30+ power pro and I have even had that broken a couple of times.

Keep in touch as I live a few minutes from Town lake and would like to meet up with and fish sometime.

Kindest regards,
Kevin
