Kentucky carp spots 1 Year, 3 Months ago Karma: 2
I am a new member and have only fished for carp a couple times a year until now,i started fishing for them at Green river lake on family camping trips, and i occasionaly fish for them at lake Linville in Mt Vernon,KY.My biggest fish so far was a thirteen pounder from Linville.Anyway,i was wondering if there were any members from Kentucky who would like to share their fave carp fishing spots,i would like to try new waters and would appreciate any suggestions, thanks.

Hi there, I have moved to KY from the UK and have been enjoying the bass fishing, however I am bringing my carp gear over from England soon and I am going to hit the lakes around Louisville and so on - I will keep you all posted!

Hey UK angler, just wanted to let you know i tried out a lake that i had overlooked for carp a couple days ago and caught a really nice one,i was a little unprepared and had no scales with me,but i got pics and will try to get them posted here soon. The lake is called lake Reba and is located in the Richmond city park, thought this might be useful info for you since Richmond is only about an hour from Louisville.

I know Lake Reba, my sister-in-law is at school in Richmond. I have not fished it yet though. I am on an oil rig in the North Atlantic at the moment, but I am hoping to bring some carp gear home with me when I get off the rig. I am strugglimg to bring my rods though - the airline want an extra $150! I have two Shimano Hyperloops 12' 2.5lb test curve - love 'em. I may have to leave the rods behind and try bass pro shop.

Uk Angler,
I recently moved to kentucky from England. I've been big into fishing all of my life, but really got into specimen hunting/carping during my last few years back home. Being relativley new to the area i dont know many decent venues and haven't actually hooked a fish since ive been here. Any suggestions on waters, or tips on kentucky carp?

Tell me about - I can see them swim past but I cannot hook them! People on here seem to think corn is the best bait but I have had no luck! It has been really warm though. The odd thing is back home on a hot day they will take bread flake off the top, not here - not for me! I must admit though I am not a specialist. I fish too many different types - jack of all master of none. I live in Louisville and I know there is carp in Long Run Park, and on the River. Where abouts in Ky are you. Last weekend I went to Kentucky Lake and enjoyed the bass fishing that much I never tok the carp rods out of the car! My best was a 3lb largemouth - not massive but a lovely fish! By the way I'm from Hull.

Funny you should say that. I tried a pedigree chum/bread crust approach today at a local park lake which i know holds huge fish(and is the only lake i know with carp), but the fish simply would not take the bait. 100+ yards out with a 8lb 6ft hooklink and a clear bolt bubble theres no visible reason why a carp should be spooked or even feel slighly un-easy. But no luck! They dont hold the margins to be stalked and i cant stand sitting behind buzzers all day. I just cant think of a way to catch them!

I live in the Bowling Green area, so im doubtful you know any waters here. I know most of the rivers do have carp here to, but like you say, they have no interest in being hooked in there.

I'm from near Norwich. Coming here makes you realise how great fishing is back home, im sorry to say that kentucky cant beat float fishing for tench in the summer, or piking in the winter! Theres some wierd speices here though! Ever caught a Gar or a paddlefish!?

Keep me updated on your catches though, even if its not carp. I dont really get the time to do a lot of fishing with college and work so hearing about good fishing places to go lets me use what time i do have wisely.

I've not caught a gar or a paddlefish yet but I know what you mean.
I completely agree when it comes to pike fishing - nothing I like more than spinning for pike. I am new to buzzers as well and as the weather cools I will be hitting Cave Run Lake armed with my buzzers and dead bait in search of Muskies - By the way, I've never fished for Muskies but to me they just look like big pike. I will throw out two dead baits on buzzers then walk up and down with a spinning rod.
I have tried to fish American but I just keep slipping back into what I know. I see people all the time fishing with a huge 'bobber' for panfish and a size 6 hook. I can bag up with panfish nearly anywhere with a 3m whip, 2lb line and size 18 hooks - barbless to speed up! but I've never eaten a panfish in my life! They all go back, except this winter some will be bait!

Well American tackle seems quite crude compared to ours, people in the tackle shops here cant belive theres such thing as a size 22 barbless hook! Im going to try and ship some tackle over as ive run out of a lot of things, a good float and shot are tough to come by.

As for the Muskies i was thinking about tackling them this winter too. I've heard they act just like pike, but i dont know how wide spread they are in kentucky. It'll also be interesting to find out how good deadbaits are, as i think most American anglers use lures.

I actually today got in contact with a friend of a friend who owns a small lake with a good stock of carp in it. Im going to try get a few hours in this week and get some fish feeding off the top.
