We are a carp fishing couple from Norway and we are travelling to America in october this year, staying for 1 month. During this month we would like to do som carp fishing. the problem is, we dont know any good carp waters/rivers in the USA. We are flying in to RDU,north carolina,and are planning to tour around the southern states and maybe across to Las Vegas. Can any of you help us with some information about this? thank you very much for your reply. we have read about town lake, so thats a place we will visit, for sure. It would be great if you could meet up with us and maybe you could show us the best swims. are the carps used to boilies in this water, and what is your bait of choise there?

Hi norwegiancarper, Rest assured,most any lake or water in North America has an abundance of carp.Especially in the Southern half of the country.If you are in the Las Vegas area,Lake Mead,which is not far from Vegas,has some monster carp in there.You will probably be one of the only people carp fishing on any body of water,so the pressure is very low in America.For baits to use in the USA check thread in Carpbait Forum.

The Carp do take boilies in Town Lake and I know a lot of people use them however in my experience I prefer to use corn or hominey as the Buffalo carp prefer smaller baits. This year I have started to specifically fish for the Buffalo's as before I would occasionally (as well as accidentally) catch one every now and then. Remind me you are coming a bit closer to October so I can make sure I will be available to show you around the lake and to fish with you.

Thats sounds great. We will write you when we know exactly when we will be in Austin. Is it allowed to fish during the night at Town Lake, and is there a maximum of rods per angler? we have also heared about Lake Mead, that there is supposed to be Koi Carp in that lake. Do you know if thats true? And is there any stores around where they sell stuff like unhooking mats, carp landing nets etc for a decent price:). Just so we dont have to bring a lot of tackle on the airplane, from home.

There are Goldfish in Lake Mead...They could be called a Koi, I suppose...and obviously common carp. As far as equipment specifically geared for carp...That may be difficult to find in the states.I'm sure there would be similar products readily available at the major sporting goods/fishing stores.Maybe admin could give ya some better info on that.

I caught a nice Koi from Town Lake 19lb 6oz if I remember just under 1st St Bridge.
