Hi everyone! have fished for Striped Bass around the waters off Mass. my friend is taking me for carp in the Merrimack river, a big river, this weekend. he says they are 15-30 pounds. I would like to try it, and if I like it, buy a rod and reel.
1. which rod? a 12 foot rod? which weight and brand and price.
2. which reel? He likes a Shimano baitrunner.

3. could I use this rig to cast for stripers from shore?
4. can you all please suggest places to fish in or near Massachusetts? I am north of Boston

Welcome, your friend is using a traditional carp reel and I assume he's gonna get you on some carp and you will love it! As far as your stripers, I cant say... but enjoy the carp fishing and if you cant do both with one rod, thats all the excuse I need to go get another rod / reel! lol...tight lines!
