October, New England river affected by tides? 10 Months ago Karma: 0
I just found out that there is carp in this New England state. It's a bit late in season but I believe that carp can be caught at this time of the year too. I've been carp fishing in Europe but only in lakes and ponds so I was hoping that someone could give me a few pointers on carp behavior in lower part of river that is blocked by dam upstream and ocean downstream. The river is obviously affected by tidal fluctuations. So, its October, New England, river affected by tides... any tips please! .
Thank you!

Carphunter420,
Thanks a lot! I'm too excited to wait until spring. I'm going to try for carp just below the dam of this river where water is calmer. The access to this river is awful because all of the private properties. I will have to squeeze in somehow I guess . Thanks again for your input!

I've personally never fished for carp in a river that close to the ocean but i'd assume it would be similar to fishing the ocean. The tides have a great effect on the bait in the water. As the tides move, so does the food...Most of the time a high tide will be the best fishing, as the tide brings the bait closer inshore, and I would guess the dam will be at its lowest flow point. The dam is probably a great place to start. This will be a carp magnet! You can probably spot them cruising close to the face of the dam or near its structures. Probably most of the baits you use in Europe will work but maize would be a great starting point. In a river, I like to use a bolt rig with adequate weight to keep hookbait pinned to bottom with minimal roll to prevent snags. 3-5oz? Spend a little time to scout the best access and swims. Good luck!
